Practical cleaning advice

How to prepare for an exterior cleaning visit.

A short, practical guide to access, fragile areas and returning to normal use after the work.

Share the details that affect access

Tell us about the route to the working area, steps, narrow gates, parking and shared entrances. For higher work, include whole-building photographs. A gutter may be visible from the ground but still difficult to reach because of the available working position.

Clear what you can safely move

Move small loose objects and arrange vehicle access as agreed. Large furniture, fixed planters and heavy equipment should be discussed in advance. Do not attempt a risky move or climb simply to prepare for a quote.

Point out vulnerable materials

Mention loose slabs, failed pointing, cracked render, delicate coatings, old seals and previous treatments. Nearby planting, ponds and pets also matter. A cleaning plan should consider those details before the method is selected.

Agree water and gate arrangements

Confirm what access and water supply the particular service needs. If you will be out, agree practical access privately beforehand. Close windows where the work requires it and keep people and animals away from the active working area.

Leave time for the finish

Re-sanding, fresh pointing and a suitable coating may require drying, curing or a later visit. Ask when the area can be used again and follow the specific advice for the work. A universal same-day promise would ignore the materials and conditions.
